My Philosophy

With my portraits I endeavor to produce something honest and true of the person I'm painting. I want the portrait to be alive with the energy and essence of the subject.

This comes about by understanding the subject as deeply as possible, whether that be during in-person sittings, over the phone, or through stories and memories.

The entire process is a collaborative one between painter and subject that starts with a vision and builds and morphs in response to our interactions until a finished portrait comes through.

The Commission Process

Get in touch - The process starts by going over your vision for the portrait. We'll talk about who the subject will be, what you'd like the portrait to express, and other general considerations. If you're unsure of the details, that's just fine, we'll work through everything together.
Preparation - We'll collect and decide on reference photos, or schedule sessions to paint from life. At this point, I will stretch and prepare your canvas.
Painting - If you'd like updates throughout the process, I'll share them as I go, or we can keep it as a surprise until the end.
Delivery - The finished painting will be varnished, carefully packed, and shipped to you.
